Plot
The Re-Mars-tered edition was released on July 3, 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows, with a Nintendo Switch release the following year on July 2, 2019.
Red Faction is set in a dystopian future on Mars and revolves around a rebellion against the Ultor Corporation. The game unfolds in the year 2075, in a time when Earth's natural resources are depleted, and humans turn to the mining operations on Mars to meet their needs. The vast Ultor Corporation controls noachite mining operations on Mars, where miners are subjected to deplorable living conditions, few human rights, and a mysterious disease known as "The Plague" with no known cure.

The protagonist of the game is Parker, a miner who came to Mars seeking a new start, lured by the promises and advantages Ultor claimed to offer in the mines of Mars. However, the reality he encounters is far from the promised ideal. Miners endure aggressive treatment, cramped living conditions, and poor nutrition. The game begins with Parker witnessing a security guard abusing a miner at the end of his shift. The miner fights back, killing the security guard, which ignites the rebellion.
Gameplay
Red Faction: Guerrilla is a third-person, open-world action shooter that takes place on Mars in the year 2125, 50 years after the events of the first Red Faction game. Players take the role of an insurgent fighter named Alec Mason with the newly re-established Red Faction movement as they battle for liberation from the oppressive Earth Defense Force (EDF).

Parker becomes involved with the Red Faction, a group of miners led by Eos, rebelling against Ultor's tyranny. He is guided by Hendrix, a rebellious Ultor security technician, who helps him navigate through the complex series of mines and facilities. The game's narrative takes Parker through various stages of the uprising, from encountering resistance from Ultor forces to the kidnapping of Ultor deputy administrator Gryphon for the Red Faction.
Throughout their fight for freedom, players travel through Mars' Tharsis region, divided into 7 sectors controlled by the EDF, with each offerring their own missions, weapons, vehicles and upgrades to the player.

The rebellion escalates with Parker and the Red Faction's encounters with Dr. Axel Capek, creator of The Plague. Capek had been experimenting with nanotechnology, and The Plague was a side-effect of injections given to miners during their annual medical checkups. In a climactic confrontation, Capek is defeated, but he dies without revealing the cure for The Plague.
Utilizing improvised weapons, explosives and re-purposed mining equipment and vehicles, Red Faction: Guerrilla allows players to tear through fully destructible environments in an unforgiving Martian landscape swarming with EDF forces, Red Faction resistance fighters, and the downtrodden settlers caught in the cross-fire.

The game culminates with Parker sending a distress call to the Earth Defense Force and destroying Ultor's missile defense system. This allows him to stow away on a shuttle to an Ultor space station in Martian orbit to deactivate a laser defense system. Upon his return to Mars, Parker confronts Masako, the leader of the mercenaries working for Ultor, and ultimately defeats her.

To counter the the impending threat of the Hydra, Alec and Samanya seek assistance from the Marauders and their leader Vasha, Samanya's sister. A deal is established, with Vasha granting the Red Faction the use of their particle accelerator inherited from Ultor to be combined with the Nano Forge, creating a weapon powerful enough to destroy the Hydra. As part of the deal, the Nano Forge would be returned to the Marauders once the war has ended.

To boost morale, Alec and Samanya seize a broadcasting station in Eos, rallying the Red Faction for an assault on EDF Central Command. The final confrontation occurs at Mount Vogel, where the Red Faction and Marauders meet. Vasha's attempt to defend a control tower results in her death at the hands of EDF forces. Alec proceeds to the summit, defeating General Roth and his army. Samanya launches a missile armed with nanites into the Hydra, ending the war.
