Volition, Inc. was a video game developer based out of Champaign, Illinois. The company was created when Parallax Software (best known for the Descent series) was split in two. The other half was the now-defunct Outrage Entertainment who developed Descent³ and Alter Echo.

With Interplay Entertainment as a publisher, Volition, Inc. developed the Descent: FreeSpace series of space simulation computer games. As Interplay tumbled towards bankruptcy, Volition, Inc. was acquired by THQ. Under THQ, Volition developed several acclaimed titles including the Red Faction series, the Summoner series, The Punisher, and the Saints Row series.

As part of THQ's bankruptcy and dissolution in January 2013, Volition and the Saints Row franchise were acquired by Koch Media, with future titles being published under its Deep Silver brand.
