Dust is a sector of Tharsis, Mars, and is a dirty and rough environment. Dust is home to all remaining mining operations on the planet.

Overview
Dust is the sector where if you don't mind working for the corporations, or rather, do work for the corporations, is where you call home. Near the center of the map is where the actual town of dust is. Inside, there is a bar, a jailhouse, a hospital, and various other buildings. Far to the north is the EDFs main windfarm, where each windmill ripped down in this sector goes towards further liberation of the sector. To the south is mountains, with a few guerrilla actions spread throughout the map. The Red Faction actually has two safehouses in this sector, one in the north a short distance from the Dust Town Hall, and another in the south safely nestled in the mountains.

Targets
*The two High Importance targets in this sector are the living quarters for EDF officers, and the Dust Town Hall, which has been fortified into a near fortress. The living quarters is only accessed by a road that is protected by several bunkers and gauss turrets, as well as roadblocks and an occaisional gunship in the air.
*The Thrasis wind farm to the north is composed of about 12 windmills, each being supported by four legs. Although the task of destroying all three sounds like a near impossible task, the windmills themselves are not structurally sound, and downing just one of their legs usually results in the destruction of the target.

Threats
Overall, Dust is an average blend of both EDF and the occasional Marauders ambush. With the addition of Heavy Walker, no building, soldier, turret, vehicle, anything really, can stand in the way of Mason in his attempt to liberate Dust
Role
Following the Red Faction's destruction of an Earth Defense Force base in Tharsis, The EDF's Admiral Lucius Kobel, Commander of the Fleet, deploys The Hydra, a massive warship (And the most powerful one ever built) towards Mars.
History
During the events of Red Faction: Guerrilla, the Hydra was proclaimed by the Earth Defense Council and indeed the EDF as the largest ship ever built. With the most effective weapons capable of destroying enemies from orbit with particle-beam based weaponry, which posed a massive threat to the Red Faction.
<spoiler>==Demise==
The Red Faction - who eventually allied with the mysterious Marauders - captured the Nano Forge, planning to use it against the Hydra. The Hydra was ready to deploy Omega Legion, the Hydra was destroyed within minutes, humiliating Earth and liberating Mars.</spoiler>

In-Game Editor is a Red Faction server tool released by the development team Time will Tell in February 2008, and when the [TwT] developers became NebulaMods, re-released in March 2009. In-Game Editor expands on the previous Endgame Editor release, offering all functions as its predecessor with the additions of a few more game settings, such as max caps and kills. IGE also supports a function to completely remove the map timer, a feature great for servers hosting a single run map.
Usage
After the game server is launched, the server admin launches the ige.exe application. When "Connect to Server" is clicked, IGE will scan for the game server. The following servers are supported:
*All server types, all languages

Once attached to the server, IGE loads the settings from the server and places them on screen with the option for modification.

Method of operation
In-Game Editor edits the server process's memory directly. IGE does not connect through the UDP protocol. All settings are completely memory-based.

Fair use
IGE offers no functions that would provide an advantage to any specific team in a competitive situation.

RCON commands
IGE supports advanced RCON commands. These commands are activated by issuing the command at the player's console, followed by a password unique to IGE. The IGE advanced RCON commands use an "admin password" which is separate from the server RCON password. Someone who knows the RCON password doesn't necessarily need to know the admin password, and someone who knows the admin password doesn't necessarily need to know the RCON password.
Description
This is the single largest, most heavily armoured vehicle found on Mars. Able to destroy whole buildings by just WALKING through them, and able to destroy tanks by swinging both arms down onto their target, it takes allot to bring one of these down. And, not surprisingly, these monstrosities are rare, only being guaranteed in one campaign mission and a few demolitions master challenges.

Originally used by miners for pulling up rock and crushing rock, this beast has become the miner's equivalent of a tank. This machine can crush two and three story buildings with ease. It has two attacks, a vertical swing of the arms and a horizontal sweep. It is one of the three mechs (the other two being the Light Walker and the Combat Walker) in the game.

One can be found in a cave just south of the Dust Town Hall. If you have destroyed the Town Hall, chances are it won't be there.
Parker is the slum of Mars. If you just want to try to work the land for a living, this is where you'll be sent, although you'll still have to sell the ore at the corporation owned mills. It's just another way the EDF is keeping people down.

Overview
All in all, Parker is like a training grounds, most of the sector is urbanized. Having small settlements, like the Red Rock trading post, throughout the area. The Red Faction only has one safehouse, but has another abandoned one located not to far up the road. Parker sector was, obviously, named after the famous Red Faction soldier, who liberated mars from the nefarious Ultor Corporation. The funny thing is, Parker may still be alive, although not in this sector, but The Badlands.

Targets
There is only one high importance target in this sector, the ore refinary

Threats
The only real threat in this sector is the EDF, and even then it isn't that heavy. When a red alert is raised, don't expect tanks or gunships to make their way to your position. It is very rare to even see an APC make its way to you, often instead the staff car is used as troop transport.

Trivia
After Alec destroys the old safehouse, the Voice of Mars will begin broadcasting that EDF forces have destroyed it, but a few guerrillas were still there and caused some casualties.

During RF:G
Parker, with the help of Alec Mason was the first region liberated by the Red Faction in 2128.
The Submachine Gun is one of the 15 player weapons in Red Faction.

Description
Although it's a slightly larger, heavier, and less accurate weapon than the Pistol, the SMG is capable of fully automatic fire with both standard 12mm bulets as well as 5.56mm high velocity armor piercing bullets. During the game you'll often find this particular weapon being wielded by Ultor's elite guard who seem content on showering you with lead at close quarters while relying on their body armor to keep them safe from your counter attacks. The SMG secures its place in the arsenal by being a solid close range weapon somewhere between the Shotgun and the Assault Rifle. There are better choices for general warfare, but it's probably the best fallback weapon in there.

Properties
*Ammo/Clip Size: 12mm bullets/30 rounds; 5.56mm high velocity armor piercing bullets/20 rounds
*Range: Short to Medium
*Primary Fire: Fire rounds, automatic
*Primary Velocity: 320 m/s
*Primary Damage: Head shot 50 Hp (Armour 25)
*Alternate Fire: Toggle between 12mm and 5.56mm rounds
*Alternate Velocity: 275 m/s
*Alternate Damage: Head shot 60 Hp (Armour 30)

Notes
It is an interesting choice by the designers to allow the weapon to chamber 5.56mm, yet give them a lower magazine capacity than the 12mm rounds. A 12mm round would be of .47 caliber and would make the magazine much longer in visible size than shown in game, and would be larger in diameter than any modern 5.56 x 45mm round. This may indicate that the 5.56mm rounds are of a higher case capacity than current ones, which the name "high velocity armor piercing round" would indicate. It seems to be visually based on the Heckler & Koch MP5K.

Trivia
The Submachine Gun is known as the Machine Pistol within the game files.

Description
The USG-50 Ultor Sniper Rifle is one of two scoped weapons in Red Faction. It fires .50 caliber armor piercing bullets to an extreme range; however, it only has a six-shot capacity and is thus not recommended for close-quarters combat. But, if you're looking to reach out and touch someone, you can't ask for more than this. Just engage its UNVS-8 12x scope and zoom in to pick 'em off one by one. This weapon never poises a problem when used against you throughout the actual game. Those who use it against you do so very ineffectively.

Description
The URC-15 Ultor Remote Mining Charge is every amateur bomber's best-friend. These little bundles of joy will stick to anything once thrown, including the ugly butts and uglier faces of Ultor guards. Once thrown, the detonator pops up and you can let it blow at your discretion. You can only deploy one of these babies at a time, so a well thought out tactical deployment is highly advised in an actual combat situation. And yes, it is a big red button that blows 'em up. Enemies will never use the Remote Charge against you (perhaps the programmers couldn't be bothered).

Properties
*Ammo/Clip Size: 21 Charges
*Alternate Velocity:
*Alternate Damage:

Notes
For some reason the player is able to duplicate the amount of Remote Mining Charges by simply throwing one down, then picking it up again by using the 'use' button without detonating it. One of the obvious glitches that the programmers didn't care about even after patching the game twice.
Description
The UBS-4 Riot Shield is a ballistic shield that's capable of deflecting or stopping most incoming rounds from pistols and rifles for a limited time. Since you are unable to fire back with one of your weapons while equipped with the Riot Shield, it's really only useful for getting from point A to point B without getting hurt. However, if you find yourself right next to an enemy with the shield, you should feel free to smash his head in with the thing, but that's pretty weak and generally ineffective; the smash function is there so that you can bump someone the hell out of your way if you're in a hurry to ditch the action in favor of some recuperation. Not a single person throughout the game will use the Riot Shield against you.
Description
Big Earl, as the URL-6T is known, is a fearsome weapon, especially if you need a door. It fires 15cm long rockets, six to a clip, in either homing mode (which requires a 2.75s lock-on time) or in dumb-fire mode, which has a 2s cycle time. Both modes utilize the built-in, always-on IR sensor which grants those lucky enough to control Big Earl the ability to see life forms through walls and such. It's not recommended for use as a close-quarters weapon; blast shockwaves are indiscriminate in whom they may hit. You'll find this weapon is not used very often by opposition that you may encounter throughout the game and is rarely something to fear when you're on the wrong end of the stick (side that goes boom) of the badboy.
These high-explosive concussion hand grenades (as opposed to a fragmentation grenade), looking much like their "potato masher" predecessors, and are as such easily thrown due to their elongated handles. They have two detonators; primary is a four-second timer, armed upon throwing, which is useful for throwing around corners and in tight quarters, assuming you have an escape route. Secondary is an impact detonator - as soon as it hits something, it explodes. They have a very short range, so be careful about that five-meter radius yourself. Enemies rarely use grenades against you, but there are instances when you'll be hearing blasts and wondering where the heck they're coming from.
Description
Winning the creative modification award, the UFT-1 is based on an Ultor brand plant defoliator. It shoots a 4 meter stream of a sticky napalm-like substance that can sustain itself for up to 30 seconds of burning, or you can take out the fuel canister and use it as an incendiary bomb. Be wary of just spraying it like crazy because not only does this thing burn fuel fast, but whatever you light could very well come running at you toasting your buns in the process. You'll find the Flame Thrower rarely being used against you in the single-player game, but if you do have the misfortune of happening across one being pointed at you, you'd be best off distancing yourself from whomever is mean enough to pull the trigger, because this sucker is lethal. Unfortunately, the Flame Thrower in online multi player is the worst weapon you could wield, because of the low damage and the unreliable hit scanning when the connection between players are over 200 ping.
That basically means you can whip this baby out and club someone to death or you can tazer them and find out what a whole lot of volts at high amperes can do to a man. This is the first weapon you obtain in the game, though you won't use it for very long, as there is always an abundant supply of ammunition for at least one of the other weapons. You'll only find pesky Ultor riot troops equipped with these weapons and they can be a pain if you're not ready for them as they run directly at you swinging and don't stop until they're dead.
The UAR-42 Assault Rifle is an Ultor commander's best friend past his pistol. It reaps the benefits of a full-size rifle (high muzzle velocity for high penetration, long barrel for high accuracy), but in a compact bullpup style design. Primary fire is a three-shot burst; the most one can fire at once without losing a lot of accuracy, but it should be known that even just one single hit from a 5.56mm armor-penetrating round will cause deep hurting on both armored and unarmored targets. The assault rifle is used most by baddies toward the beginning and middle portions of the game, but you'll find that it's a very effective weapon all the way to the end and may even end up being utilized almost exclusively in favor of other weapons, until you run out of ammo at least.
The Rail Driver is one of the 15 player weapons in Red Faction.

Description
Colonel Masako first brought the FCA-26 Magnetic Rail Driver to Mars in 2075, and once you get it, you'll thank her. Essentially, it's a highly revved up sniper weapon. It features an advanced zoom scope that allows for sight through walls as well as an incredible penetration capability due to the mass-driven metal slugs it uses as ammunition that allow for killing through walls. Unfortunately, the weapon only holds one slug at a time, which necessitates a reload after every shot. Not recommended for close-quarters combat, but still an excellent addition to the arsenal. Possibly the most frustrating weapon used against you throughout the game, mercenaries are able to kill you with one shot from this thug and can just as easily deplete a vehicles armor with a few well placed shots. If you see a blue streak go by at lighting speeds and are still somehow alive than you'd be best to find where it came from and silence the threat, before you yourself are put down with prejudice.

Red Faction II
The Rail Driver makes fewer appearances in Red Faction II, although at times it is employed by Quill with deadly force. Alias will only get his hands on one at the later stages of the game, and given that the man-shaped heat signatures from the previous game are replaced with pinpoint targets, this can make the game easier or harder for players, depending on how good a shot you are.

Red Faction: Guerrilla
In the third game, the human-shaped heat signatures from the first game return, and it is this game when the Rail Driver can be used most effectively. If used in conjunction with the jetpack, Mason can surround, confuse and eliminate enemies before they have the slightest idea of what's happening, if he manages to get to a vantage point. Say, on top of a building.
Description
One of two scoped weapons in Red Faction, the MK/SG-1 Defender Precision Rifle was brought to Mars by Colonel Masako's mercenary force. It fires explosive-tipped 5.56mm rounds to extreme ranges with utter accuracy. The Precision Rifle carries a magazine capacity of 20 rounds and is as equally effective at closer ranges as it is at a distance. Its secondary zoom scope slightly brightens the environment and is an excellent addition to an already superb weapon. So whether you're sniping someone from a far or busting through a door preparing to clear a room, this is probably going to be the choice for you; a jack of all trades kind of weapon. Mercenaries are readily equipped with the Precision Rifle, but it's a far less threatening weapon than the Rail Driver or Heavy Machine Gun. You should have little to no problem lifting this badboy off fallen mercs.
Description
By spewing forth immensely powerful .50 caliber shells at anywhere from point-blank to long range, the JF60-HMG/BF Heavy Suppression Machine Gun is the ultimate in Ultor-style crowd control. It's inaccurate to be sure, but makes up for it with a very high firing rate and a usual belt size of 99 rounds; however, as if you could be subtle with a sledgehammer, the secondary fire mode slows the firing rate to a more manageable speed with a concurrent increase in accuracy. Mercenaries will wield the Heavy Machine Gun at you with lethal precision, so be wary once you hear it going off.

Featured article bar

The Plague is a result of the nanotechnology experimentation conducted by the Ultor Corporation and, more specifically, Dr. Capek. The disease was featured in Red Faction.

Progression
Though the exact nature of the Plague is never explained in the game, fans have speculated about its progression.

The Plague results from human exposure to nanites created by Capek. It is thought that when such nanites enter a human body, they begin to attack the brain. The attack stops all non-essential neuro-muscular functions, causing the victim to fall to the ground and making them unresponsive.

It is at this point that the nanites proceed to replicate, systematically taking over the entire body of the victim. Some nanites appear to over-replicate, producing tumor-like bulges on the victim's body. The victim's body and immune system will either accept the nanites -- leading to severe mutations -- or reject the nanites, resulting in death.

Cure
Curing the plague is fairly straightforward; in Capek's own words, all that needs to be done is stop the replicators. This is done by administering an antidote -- likely a chemical solution that interrupts the nanites' replication process. Once the replicators are stopped, the remaining nanites will eventually stop operating, and the body will slowly return back to normal.

Trivia
Through out the whole missions of red faction there are some graffiti saying "the plague is coming for you" it maybe a reference for upcoming missions and enemies.

In Red Faction, Parker calls in the EDF to take control of Mars away from Masako's mercenaries and Ultor's guards. The EDF doesn't not appear in Red Faction II, but they along with the Red Faction reform the newly humane Ultor Corporation and they supplied the Red Faction weapons, and declared war on Chancellor Victor Sopot's government.

Red Faction: Guerrilla
At the end of the first Red Faction the Earth Defense Force came in and helped the Red Faction beat Ultor and rid Mars of them. Instead of leaving once the job was done the EDF stayed on Mars and over the 50 years they have gone from being the liberators of Mars to the new oppressors. In fact they are worse than Ultor. The people of Mars do not have any rights, are beaten in the streets by EDF officers, and live in complete misery. Finally having enough of the oppression, once again the miners have called up the name of Red Faction and have started a guerrilla movement against the EDF to push them off the planet and liberate the people. The EDF is the main antagonist in Red Faction: Guerrilla.

Despite having leaders of note, such as General Roth, they are rarely seen in game. The EDF are a largely faceless and characterless enemy. However, this may be deliberate. It is not stated whether the Drones, the body of the EDF, are human soldiers or not. Their very name might suggest otherwise, detracting from their humanity somewhat. Also their sheer numbers might suggest something more sinister behind the mask. Clones, robots? Questions never asked or answered in game, but have been raised in certain reviews.
However, they can occasionally be heard cursing. Firing at them with particularly lethal weapons will even provoke certain soldiers to call Mason a motherfucker.

*Range: Short
*Primary Fire: Throws and detonates the charge
*Primary Velocity:
*Alternate Velocity:
*Alternate Damage:

Notes
For some reason the player is able to duplicate the amount of Remote Mining Charges by simply throwing one down, then picking it up again by using the 'use' button without detonating it. One of the obvious glitches that the programmers didn't care about even after patching the game twice.
Description
This Red Faction map is accessible via the "Extras" menu. It has a large house with breakable glass, and fully geomoddable walls, floor, and ceiling.

There are three weapons near the spawnpoint: Remote Charges, a Rocket Launcher, and an Assault Rifle.
Interestingly the movement and the gun physics are based on the single player properties, which makes the player movement much slower.
The Riot Shield is one of the 15 player weapons in Red Faction.

The Flame Thrower is one of the 15 player weapons in Red Faction.

The Grenade is one of the 15 player weapons in Red Faction.

Description
These high-explosive concussion hand grenades (as opposed to a fragmentation grenade), looking much like their "potato masher" predecessors, and are as such easily thrown due to their elongated handles. They have two detonators; primary is an impact detonator - as soon as it hits something, it explodes. Secondary is a four-second timer, armed upon throwing, which is useful for throwing around corners and in tight quarters. (assuming you have an escape route). They have a very short range, so be careful about that five-meter radius yourself. Enemies rarely use grenades against you, but there are instances when you'll be hearing blasts and wondering where the heck they're coming from.
