The Red Faction was first formed in 2075 after the leader [[Eos]] and a few other miner groups began to make preparations for the revolt against [[Ultor]].

The group, known to Ultor guards as a mere [[Miner Olympics]] team, secretly gained momentum over the years. Once established, the Red Faction revealed itself as a rebel group. Ultor hired [[Masako]] and her mercenaries to put an end to the revolution. [[Parker]], a Red Faction member, fought his way through the mines and called for assistance from the Red Faction’s ally, the [[Earth Defense Force]]. After the EDF eliminated all remaining [[Ultor]] guards and mercenaries, [[Mars]] was under [[Earth]] control.

==[[Red Faction II]]==
The Red Faction came back to earth to liberate the people of the Commonwealth, they were suplied by the Earth Defense Force.

==[[Red Faction: Guerrilla]]==
EDF forces determined that the Red Faction had sabotaged mining efforts on Mars, and thus outlawed the group. Despite this, the EDF still remained paranoid of another rebellion and incarcerated and killed anyone whom they thought had an affiliation with the rebel group. This led to full-scale warfare on the planet.

<spoiler>After the destruction of [[The Hydra]] in 2128, the Red Faction found itself as the sole governing body of [[Mars]] With [[Alec Mason]] as its Leader, It is now possibly the one organization equal to the [[EDF]], not in technology, but in tactics and skill.</spoiler>

The [[Earth]] Defense Force (EDF) is one of the few elements from the first [[Red Faction (Game)|Red Faction]] that has remained with the series into [[Red Faction: Guerrilla]].

In Red Faction, [[Parker]] calls in the EDF to take control of [[Mars]] away from [[Masako]]'s [[Mercenaries|mercenaries]] and [[Ultor]]'s guards. The game ends with the EDF broadcast "This facility is now under the command of the Earth Defence Force. Drop your weapons immediately. All armed personnel will be shot on sight."

The EDF dosen't not appear in Red Faction II, but they along with the Red Faction reform the newly humane Ultor Corporation and they suplied the Red Faction weopons, and declared war on [[Sopot|Chancellor Victor Sopot]]'s goverment.

==Red Faction: Guerrilla==
At the end of the first Red Faction the Earth Defense Force came in and helped the [[Red Faction(Rebellion)|Red Faction]] beat [[Ultor]] and rid Mars of them. Instead of leaving once the job was done the EDF stayed on Mars and over the 50 years they have gone from being the liberators of Mars to the new oppressors. In fact they are worse than [[Ultor]]. The people of Mars do not have any rights, are beaten in the streets by EDF officers, and live in complete misery. Finally having enough of the oppression, once again the miners have called up the name of [[Red Faction(Rebellion)|Red Faction]] and have started a guerrilla movement against the EDF to push them off the planet and liberate the people. The EDF is the main antagonist in [[Red Faction: Guerrilla]].

Despite having leaders of note, such as General Roth, they are rarely seen in game. The EDF are a largely faceless and characterless enemy. However, this may be deliberate. It is not stated whether the Drones, the body of the EDF, are human soldiers or not. Their very name might suggest otherwise, detracting from their humanity somewhat. Also their sheer numbers might suggest something more sinister behind the mask. Clones, robots? Questions never asked or answered in game, but have been raised in certain reviews.
However, they can occasionally be heard cursing. Firing at them with particularly lethal weapons will even provoke certain soldiers to call Mason a motherfucker.
