'''Alec "Hammer" Mason''' is the main character in ''[[Red Faction: Guerrilla]]'', the third game in the ''Red Faction'' series. He is an Earth-born miner whose involvement in the second [[Red Faction (Rebellion)|Red Faction]] led to the liberation of [[Mars]].

==Backstory==
Alec Mason was born, presumably on Earth, on July 10, 2086; he immigrated to [[Mars]] in 2125, hoping that his brother, [[Dan Mason]], could get him a mining job on the planet. As Dan drove his brother to his trailer, he bitterly described the oppression and brutality practiced by the [[Earth Defense Force]]; after liberating Mars in 2075, the EDF perpetrated various injustices.

Dan Mason's warnings about the EDF proved prophetic when an EDF gunship killed him. As a grieving Alec returned to his trailer, he found an EDF patrol waiting for him. The patrol had ransacked the trailer and found explosives -- a legitimate tool of Alec's trade. Branding him a terrorist and a member of the revived [[Red Faction (Rebellion)|Red Faction]], an EDF officer ordered the squad to execute him. The execution was interrupted by a Red Faction squad, who gunned down most of the squad -- Mason used his sledgehammer to finish off the last officer.

The new Red Faction's leader, [[Hugo Davies]], approached Alec Mason and, without bothering to introduce himself, grimly informed Mason that, like it or not, he just joined the rebellion.

==Trivia==
There seems to be a certain amount of irony attached to the name of this character, since a mason is a profession that involves construction with bricks and concrete, in contrast to Alec Mason's role of destruction in the game.

The Ship was ready to deploy [[Omega Legion]], the Hydra was destroyed within minutes, humiliating [[Earth]] and liberating [[Mars]].</spoiler>

==Description==
The EDF Rail Driver is a specialist-issue firearm in the military's elite infantry divisions, specifically designed for at-range anti-personnel engagement. The Rail Driver is capable of firing a heavy projectile at over 3500 meters per second, and can penetrate several meters of conventional armour or construction material. The Rail Driver features a high-power scope with high-resolution infrared scanner capable of imaging armoured or entrenched heat-signatures.

This weapon is what the EDF uses to fight dirty. With X-Ray sights you can see targets through obstacles, and the power of the gun itself allows you to shoot straight through to those targets. There’s no such thing as “cover” with this.

Recommendation: An enemy is taking cover behind a wall of a structure, but you need to take them out. Pull out your rail driver, engage the enhanced thermal vision, and they’ll never know (or see) what hit them. This is good for taking out Gunships, aim for the pilot. Works with tanks and other vehicles as well. It is possible to take cover and eliminate an entire building of EDF without ever exposing yourself to enemy fire.
